The small man counts small evil as no evil, and never refrains from it. He counts small good as no good, and never does it.

I Ching (Book of Changes), Xici II · free rendering

Once, a man walked the long road below the mountain.

The petty person thinks a small good is of no use, and so does not do it;

thinks a small wrong does no harm, and so does not give it up.

So the wrongs pile up, until they can no longer be hidden.

Book of Changes, Xici II

Further down the road, a girl broke her bread in half and tilted her cup toward a stranger.

“With half a loaf and a tilted cup I won myself a companion.”

Hávamál 52 · ᚠᛁᛚᛅᚴᛅ filaka, “companion”: carved so on a runestone found in Aarhus (DR 68, c. 1000)

Translations ours. Voice: AI (ElevenLabs, “River”). Music: “关关雎鸠” by Yehor Kaliberda, made with Suno. Drawn in code.

Films

Made in the lab, with their real numbers.

Each film is drawn in code or shot on a phone, and checked before it leaves. Under each published one: what actually happened on Instagram.

Under each published film: views; past 3 s, the share of viewers who kept watching beyond the first three seconds; avg, the average time watched. Read from Instagram’s API by the video lab at fixed ages after posting, never typed in. Unpublished films show no numbers.

    Ten places.

The lab is a small team: ten young artists who make films and songs with AI and stay the authors. Entry is a short practical test at an open workshop in Aarhus. People judge it, not software, and you get feedback either way.

    Funding

    Applied for, not yet granted.

The lab is part of an art project, OMSORG II – Young Art Intelligence Community: making work with AI while showing openly which choices were human, which were the machine’s, and what it cost.

We have applied for public arts funding to keep the lab free and to cover participants’ AI subscriptions (Claude Pro):

    Statens Kunstfond (Danish Arts Foundation)
Monthly workshops at UKH, Oct 2026 – Mar 2027, and a group exhibition at UKH, 15 April – 5 May 2027.
    Decision expected mid-December 2026.
    Aarhus Kommune, Kulturudviklingspuljen
Lab Nights, a podcast and a method guide, Jan – Jun 2027.
    Decision expected around January 2027.

Nothing is granted yet. Any application may be refused or reduced, and nobody receives personal payments from these grants. If funding comes through, this section will say exactly what it covers.

    Why showing up matters

Funders judge whether a project is real and reaches people. The best evidence is what actually happened: who came, who came back, what got finished. We count that anonymously, the same way the films count their views — measured, never typed in.

    For teachers

    For teachers

If your students work with media, design or code, this lab is a free, practical way for them to try AI tools while staying the authors of their work (entry is free; participants bring their own Claude Pro subscription). I’m happy to give a 5-minute introduction at the start or end of a class, or to leave posters for your notice board.
